ish police have finally detained illegal gambling ring leader Veysel Sahin, according to local media reports.

Authorities have confirmed that Sahin was arrested last month in Sivas, Turkey, while visiting his father. The arrest comes almost a year after a major illegal syndicate was busted.

According to the report published by the local news website Ahaber, the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of Sahin for establishing an international crime organisation.

In the same report, Sahin said: “I came to Turkey because of my father’s illness. I was going to take my dad to Istanbul. Passport was seized. I am a businessman. I have to travel abroad, the victory.”

Policemen also detained 25 other men for “being a knight member to commit a crime” and “opposing the law against the regulation of betting and luck games in football and other sporting events”.

The country has been recently tighteting up its policy towards illegal gaming. Late last year, Turkey busted a major international illicit gambling ring that had links to Turkish Cyprus and the UK. Police had said the operation, which had been under observation for five months, created income of $100m every month. In the operation, Istanbul police seized over £6m in cash as well as other assets, and the following websites were shutdown: 1xbet, Fortizsbet, Betvigobet, Marimbet, Erabet, Kolonybet, Jollybet, Astecbet, Adminka, Betfigo, Betpass, Resbet, Mrbahis, Carnaval, Redobet, and Betbizz.
