DraftKings and Kambi launch mobile sports betting in New Jersey

DraftKings has become the first operator to offer mobile sports betting in the US outside Nevada, as its Kambi-powered app is now live in New Jersey.

The achievement by the US-based operator signifies a new chapter in the company’s history as it looks to diversify and enter the sports betting market.

Since the repeal of the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May, many in the state of New Jersey, including politicians, have been eagerly awaiting the day mobile sports betting goes live.

Despite other states such as Delaware, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi all legalising sports betting, New Jersey has secured its place in gambling industry history by being the first to accept an online sports betting wager outside Nevada.

Currently, sports betting fans can register on the DraftKings website if they wish to receive an invite to use the DraftKings sportsbook app.

Mobile operators in New Jersey are required to partner with land-based operators to launch in the state.

Having entered into a deal with DraftKings in June, Swedish-based Kambi has provided the company with technology and services to help them set up and operate their sportsbook.

Kambi CEO Kristian Nylen said: Yesterday marked the start of an exciting new chapter for Kambi, as we created history with our partner DraftKings by processing the first online wager outside of Nevada following the repeal of PASPA.

“To be the first, and so far and only, sports betting supplier to receive a transactional waiver to operate online in New Jersey strengthens our position as the secure and quality choice for operators seeking a sportsbook partner.”
