The Gambling Commission (GC) has released a list of organisations betting operators must make an annual financial contribution to for the prevention of problem gambling.

Operators are obliged to make a contribution to at least one of three problem gambling charities; GambleAware, GamCare or Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust.

The requirement came into practice on 1 January, to ensure operators are compliant with their licensing conditions, with contributions to be made to research, prevention and treatment (RET) of problem gambling.

Operators will also ensure they have no connection with their designated organisation and the GC has not specified the amount that can be donated.

A GC statement added: "Businesses can continue to donate funds to any organisation outside of the approved list and the only change is that such contributions will not be counted as LCCP RET contributions.

"Organisations seeking to be on the list of organisations to which gambling businesses may direct their RET contributions should provide information to the Commission to help us assess their suitability."

Last summer, William Hill, GVC Holdings, Flutter Entertainment, Stars Group and Bet365 all agreed to increase their voluntary contribution to safer gambling from 0.1% to 1% of gross gaming yield, within five years.
