BetKansas claims Sunflower State could launch sports betting earlier than expected
By Gambling Insider

The Sunflower State is moving quickly to launch in time for the September kick-off of this year’s pro football season, according to BetKansas.

Failing a pre-season launch, the Midwestern state will look to go live early into the 2022/23 NFL campaign, added BetKansas, which begins on 8 September.

Industry insiders, such as former Michigan State Representative and current Head of Government Affairs at Sportradar Brant Iden, foresee an autumn start for the Sunflower State’s sports betting market.

“I am confident that we’ll see bets being taken well before the legislatively mandated date of Jan 1, 2023,” commented Iden, as reported by BetKansas.

Moreover, Todd Allen, Director of Wagering at the Kansas Racing & Gaming Commission (KRGC), said the state has a “good foundation of sports betting regulations now.”

This would largely align with recent developments. DraftKings, for example, unveiled a range of welcome promotions earlier this month for bettors in Kansas.

Christopher Boan, Lead Analyst for BetKansas.com, cited Arizona as an example, “tentatively” forecasting a 9 October launch date.

“Using Arizona’s launch as a model, the Grand Canyon State went through the same process last summer to green light their sports betting legislature to get up and running for NFL season,” Boan said.

“Based on the 147 days between the bill being signed and the actual launch of wagering in Arizona, we would tentatively expect a 9 October 2022 launch in Kansas.”

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed into law the bill legalising sports betting in May after legislators voted in favour of the measure in late April.
