Polymarket Expands Fees Across Markets, Launches Referral Program
Polymarket is rolling out fees across most markets while introducing a referral program that shares up to 30% of trading revenue with users.
Polymarket will expand its trading fees to most market categories starting March 30 while launching a referral program that shares a portion of trading revenue with users.
Fees Expand Beyond Crypto and Sports
Currently, Polymarket applies trading fees to crypto and sports event contracts. Under the new structure, fees will extend to more categories, including politics, finance, economics, culture, weather, tech, “Mentions”, and “Other / General.”
The platform will continue to use a probability-based fee model instead of a flat commission. Under the new structure, the fees are the highest at around 50% probability and decrease as the event outcome becomes more certain. Fees approach zero at prices near 0% or 100%.
Different categories will have separate fee structures. Crypto markets will have the highest effective fees, peaking at 1.8% at 50% probability (previously 1.56%). Meanwhile, sports markets will have the lowest effective fees, peaking at 0.75% at 50% probability (up from 0.44%).
For example, a $50 trade on a sports event priced at 50% probability would increase from $0.22 to $0.38. Most other categories will have peak effective rates of between 1% and 1.56%.
Maker orders, which add liquidity to the order book, remain eligible for rebates funded by taker fees. Polymarket said it is expanding its maker rebate program as part of the broader fee rollout. These rebates are distributed daily in USDC and are based on the share of liquidity a user provides and that gets executed.
Referral Program Introduces Revenue Sharing
In addition to the fee expansion, Polymarket has announced a referral program. The program is available to users who have traded at least $10,000 in volume.
Eligible traders can create a referral link to share with unlimited people. When someone signs up via the link, the referrer earns a percentage of the fees generated by their trades.
For a limited time, users can earn:
- 30% of fees generated by direct referrals
- 10% of fees generated by second-level referrals
Direct referrals are those that the user has personally referred. Meanwhile, indirect referrals are second-level referrals that users bring in through a direct referral.
The rewards are available for the first 180 days after a user signs up for Polymarket, with the period subject to change without notice.
The program expands on a previously limited rollout and is being made available more broadly as part of the platform’s updated incentive structure.
Integrity Measures Introduced Alongside Fee Expansion
Polymarket’s new fee structure and referral program come alongside new rules aimed at addressing insider trading and market manipulation.
The company announced that it has updated its market integrity rules across its international cryptocurrency platform and its CFTC-regulated U.S. exchange. The updated rules clarify three categories of prohibited trading:
- Trading on stolen confidential information
- Trading on illegal tips
- Trading by individuals who can influence the outcome of an event
In addition, users can report suspicious activity in Polymarket’s new Market Integrity pages. There, users can also read more about the new rules.
The introduction of new rules, along with the fee structure and referral program, signals Polymarket’s broader effort to address market integrity while scaling user participation and liquidity.
