Genting get go-ahead for Birmingham casino

The Council’s planning committee approved the Resorts World project at a meeting on 26 March, also agreeing to create a working group to monitor the development.

Plans for the complex, which is expected to open by the end of 2013, include a 50,000sq ft casino as well as a hotel, spa, conference centre and shops.

The project will create 1,100 new jobs, with operators Genting pledging to recruit locally, while over 1,750 construction workers will also be required to complete the work. Genting say the complex will add around £25m a year to the local economy.

Genting UK executive deputy chairman Peter Brooks said: “The approved project will bring substantial benefits to Solihull and the wider region in terms of job creation and regeneration and will play a key role in the future prosperity and success of the NEC.”
