New Jersey i-gaming enjoys bright start to 2015
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has reported improved online gambling win for state operators in January.
A total of $11.53m was posted, up from $8.67m in the same month last year, an increase of 34.5% when including discontinued operators .
Discontinued operators did not contribute to the total in January 2015, but the now-closed online division of the Trump Taj Mahal casino made up $858,351 of the January 2014 tally.
The overall monthly figure is just over $300,000 short of the record total of $11.83m recorded in March last year.
There were mixed results for the two verticals, as online casino win accounted for $9.3m, up 54% year-on-year, while internet poker contributed just $2.3m, down by over a third from $3.44m in January 2014.
New Jersey is now in its second full year of regulated online gambling, with revenues for last year falling a long way short of Governor Chris Christie’s projected total of $1bn by the end of July.
Overall online gambling revenue stood at $122.9m for the year, with casino operator Borgata providing over a third of the yearly total.
Total January gaming win for the state’s entire gambling industry was up 0.9% to $197.57m, while gaming win for current operators saw an 18.8% rise year-on-year from $166.25m.
