UK National Lottery sales hit record £7.5bn
Camelot has revealed annual figures showing the UK National lottery made record sales of £7.6bn for the year ended 31 March 2016, up 4%.
A record £4.2bn was paid out to customers while Camelot raised £1.9bn for good causes
Results for the fourth quarter were also released, showing that sales, which include EuroMillions, Lotto and Scratchcards, increased 10% year-on-year to £2.02bn for the three-month period.
Major changes were made to the Lotto in October, included the introduction of a “Millionnaire Raffle” that guarantees a £1m win for every draw and the increase of the number of balls in the main Lotto draw from 49 to 59, increasing the odds of winning the jackpot from 13.98 million/1 to 45.1 million/1.
Camelot also added a free lucky dip for a future Lotto draw to any player who matches two numbers.
More than 100 players became millionaires in the six months following the implementation of the new rules.
Camelot insisted the Lotto revamp would maintain player interest in the draw and guarantee more winners.
