Online gambling remains profitable for US states

Despite the slowly re-opening land-based industry, online casinos remain the most profitable aspects of the US gaming industry at present.

According to a report from CDC Gaming Reports, the states where online gambling is legal earned $142.6m in total for the month of July, a 5% increase compared to June.

In Pennsylvania, online gambling brought in $54.4m for July, an 8% growth month-on-month. Revenue from slots increased 6% and earned $39.4m, compared to $36.8m the previous month. Table games brought in $12m, a 17% rise.

New Jersey earned a record sum of $87.5m from online gaming. Online poker brought in $4.8m, a significant 36% jump from June. Golden Nugget earned $31.5m, an 8% increase month-on-month. Sports betting almost doubled compared to June, bringing in $27m in July.

In West Virginia, online gambling brought in $824,639 in revenue since the launch of DraftKings’ platform on July 15. Delaware, however, recorded a drop in online gambling. In July, the state earned $705,533, a 27% drop from $964,607 in June. Lottery games brought in $560,552, table games earned $82,376, and poker raked in $62,604.

In many states, land-based casinos are slowly re-opening, but restrictions and health concerns keep many players invested in the online alternative, so it’s predicted that August will be just as successful for online gaming revenue.
