Rivers Casino Philadelphia donates $1m to Penn Treaty Special Services District

Rivers Casino Philadelphia has presented a $1m donation to the Penn Treaty Special Services District (SSD).

The Penn Treaty SSD serves the neighbourhoods of Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde Richmond and South Kensington – it also distributes the casino’s grants to community organisations.

These funds are then used to sponsor neighbourhood events to improve local infrastructure such as parks, playgrounds and support programs, including those in the arts, sports, education and recreation.

Over the last 14 years, the Penn Treaty SSD has distributed 737 grants totalling $10m to 182 non-profit organisations.

Rivers Casino’s cumulative contributions to the Penn Treaty SSD has now reached $11.4m since 2009, just prior to the casino’s opening.

Eric Althaus, General Manager of Rivers Casino, expressed the casino’s pride in its ongoing partnership with the Penn Treaty SSD, stating: “This organisation has played a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of our neighbouring communities and we’re privileged to support its mission.”

During the donation presentation event, the Penn Treaty SSD board of directors acknowledged the service of individuals and organisations benefiting the community. Those recognised received City Council citations.

Rick Angeli, Chairman of the Penn Treaty Special Services District board, emphasised the importance of the casino’s annual contributions, adding: “Without Rivers’ annual contribution to the SSD, none of the work we do for our communities would be possible.”

Rivers Casino has a history of involvement with community welfare and engagement with initiatives like the Rivers Gives charity event, which allows employees to volunteer at non-profit organisations across several states.
