Melco publishes sustainability report: 100% of eggs will be from cage-free hens by 2025

The ‘Rise to go Above & Beyond’ report highlights the sustainability efforts from Melco Resorts & Entertainment made in 2023.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman and CEO, Lawrence Ho, said: “Our commitment to sustainability remains steadfast to our foundational principles — behaving responsibly, serving our communities, transparently sharing our journey, and igniting positive change through the unparalleled power of entertainment.

“The unveiling of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Studio City Phase 2 were not mere expansions; they were bold statements of our ingrained sustainability ethos, reflecting our commitment at every operational level and touchpoint.

“‘Rise to go Above & Beyond’ is about more than just business goals; it’s about making a positive impact, leading by example, and showing that it’s possible to be successful while being responsible stewards of our planet and communities.”

One of the first segments in the report covers the supply chain, which covered how 87% of its purchases were from local companies, 100% of its tea is organic, 100% of its coffee is from local suppliers through the Philippines Coffee Board (PCB)-Le Café Filipina and it’s in the process of sourcing 100% of its eggs from cage-free hens by 2025.

Also classed as ‘in progress’ were workshops on animal welfare, waste reduction in packaging and distribution, human rights and modern slavery.

The company did achieve 100% training for security personnel on recognising and tackling human rights, modern slavery and sexual exploitation issues.

The report also showed that 500 tonnes of playing cards were recycled or repurposed, 25,000 solar panels were installed on Melco properties and over 57.4 million kWh was saved through different energy-saving measures.

In other Melco news, Ho voiced support for multiple-entry visas between Hengqin and Macau, which would benefit tourists and the gambling industry alike.
