Pakistan YouTuber Ducky Bhai arrested for alleged online gambling promotion

Key points:

– Ducky Bhai arrested by National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA)

– Allegedly promoted gambling apps including Binomo, 1xBet and B9 Game

– Apps accused of defrauding users, with several videos under investigation

Controversial YouTuber Ducky Bhai was arrested early Sunday at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Saad ur Rehman, was reportedly attempting to leave the country when immigration flagged his name on the Provisional National Identification List.

As reported by HUM News English, authorities accused Rehman of promoting unauthorised gambling platforms such as Binomo, 1xBet and B9 Game through his social media channels. The NCCIA alleged that the apps defrauded investors by failing to pay out promised returns. Officials said Rehman financially benefitted from the promotions and had even operated as a “country manager” for one of the companies without government approval.

The investigation began on 13 June after authorities received information that social media influencers were encouraging the public to invest in illegal betting schemes. A complaint cited 27 video links connected to Rehman, some of which have since been removed.

Good to know: Ducky Bhai previously won the Best YouTuber of the Year award at the Pakistan International Screen Awards in 2020 and 2021

During his arrest, the NCCIA confiscated his mobile phone, reportedly uncovering communications tied to gambling promotions and evidence of suspicious transactions. The agency obtained a two-day physical remand to continue their investigation and is expected to submit a report to court on 19 August.

This is not Rehman’s first legal issue. Earlier this year, he faced court proceedings for reckless motorway driving, for which he was granted protective bail by the Lahore High Court.

The case is currently under investigation, with the NCCIA leading proceedings.
