DigiPlus files South Africa licence applications in latest international expansion

Key points:

– Applications filed for a National Manufacturer, Bookmaker and Bookmaker Premises licence

– Move follows September 2025 launch of GamePlus in Brazil

– Comes as DigiPlus continues to explore acquisitions, including interest in City of Dreams Manila

DigiPlus Interactive Corp has filed applications for online gaming licences in South Africa, advancing its plans to expand into international regulated markets.

In a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange, DigiPlus confirmed it has applied to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) for three operator licences covering manufacturing, bookmaking and bookmaker premises.

The WCGRB is considered a leading jurisdiction for digital gaming operators due to its regulatory framework and readiness for online activity.

DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco said: “The filing of our online gaming licence in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey, as we bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming and player protection, together with our strength in localising games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies.”

Good to know: DigiPlus last week launched its surety bond programme in the Philippines, providing player fund protection of up to PHP 1m ($17,532) per eligible customer

The latest development comes just two days after DigiPlus formally entered the Brazilian market with the launch of its GamePlus brand. Brazil’s recent regulatory changes have created new opportunities for international operators, with DigiPlus identifying it as a core focus market alongside the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the company is also the subject of industry speculation over its potential acquisition of Melco Resorts’ stake in City of Dreams Manila. DigiPlus has clarified that while it continues to assess acquisition opportunities as part of its expansion programme, no definitive agreement has been reached.

South Africa represents DigiPlus’ second confirmed international push in September alone. If successful, the licence applications would allow the company to diversify its digital assets while also gaining entry into a market where online sports betting and gaming have been steadily expanding under regulated frameworks.

The company said it will provide updates on the progress of its applications in due course.
