Macau visitation up during Holiday period

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) revealed the visitation during the Christmas period showed an increase in guests compared to November and October. Between 23 December and 27 December, the average daily number of visitors was more than 24,000. The visitations increased by 20% compared to the rest of December, and before the 23rd, an average number of visitors saw a growth of 31% compared to October.

Hotel occupancy for the holiday period was above 70%, with three-star hotels earning an average nightly rate of MOP605.50 ($75.80); 93% of visitors came from Mainland China. By the end of October, 4.6m people visited Macau during nine months, a steep drop from 39.4m recorded the previous year. Real visitation levels and their impact will be revealed in January by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

MGTO promoted Macau as a safe tourist destination. Its social media accounts relayed the message of Macau’s suitability: “Travel connoisseurs were invited to the city to help promote Macau as a safe and quality destination, whereas discounted travel packages and products were launched for travel to Macau through collaboration with different online travel agencies (OTA).”

Tourism authorities also promoted several promotional initiatives to increase visitations by bolstering traveller confidence, especially those from the Mainland during festive holidays.
