IGT approved by Nevada regulators for cashless pay module

International Game Technology (IGT) has announced the completion of the final stage of Nevada regulatory approval for its Resort Wallet carded cashless module.

The module allows the state’s customers to use safer, contact-free payment options for slot gaming.

Ryan Reddy, IGT VLT, Systems and Payments Products VP, said: “Our Resort Wallet solution ensures that our customers can experience the increased liquidity, player convenience, and enhanced safety that only cashless gaming can deliver. We're grateful to the Nevada Gaming Control Board for enabling this momentous debut in the state."

IGT's Resort Wallet has three cashless pay modules. One is a loyalty card used to transfer cash into a secure digital wallet and the card can then be activated for plays with a pin code.

Another method is to use a smartphone to pay for slot games using a Cashless Wagering Account. Lastly, the mobile app supports the transfer of funds from external sources, so players can use their e-wallets or credit cards to pay for games. Cashless pay should reduce errors that come from handling cash, as well as provide better safety and security.

Innovation in Nevada is not the only cashless payment option IGT is working on. Bloomberg has reported that the company received a patent to enable cryptocurrency as a valid method to pay for the casino games.

IGT spokesperson Phil O’Shaughnessy said: “IGT secured this patent to bolster its industry-leading patent portfolio in anticipation of any possible future direction in regulated gaming involving cryptocurrency.”
