SJM Holding’s Grand Lisboa Palace to launch as scheduled

Co-chairman and executive director Angela Leong On Kei told local press that the launch of the Cotai property will go ahead.

At a company event, Ms Leong was able to confirm that the launch is expected to take place within the first half of 2021.

She hopes to bring in more visitors by following the efforts of the Macau government to boost the city’s tourism after the pandemic.

The launch had suffered several setbacks after being pushed to the first and second quarter of 2021.

These delays can date back as early as 2017, when the construction site suffered a fire but now SJM Holdings hopes it can finally launch the project.

Construction for the site finished late February, following the completion the company said final inspections from the government were set to take place.

The Grand Lisboa Palace will contain three hotel towers which are the Grand Lisboa Palace, Palazzo Versace and Karl Lagerfield.

The entire project is estimated to have around 1,900 rooms and will offer event space, shopping, dining and entertainment to complement its casino.

Ms Leong had revealed that the Portuguese restaurant at the Palace will be run by a Michelin star chef. The name is currently being kept as a secret and would be announced alongside the launch.

Investment bank JP Morgan said that the site should “open in one go” although a staggered opening would not come as a surprise.
