Connecticut sports betting launch could miss NFL opening day

Research from the Action Network, a provider of sports betting data and odds, has claimed the regulation and launch of Connecticut’s sports betting market will miss the start of the NFL season due to a number of delays.

It is now likely sports wagering will not launch throughout the state until after the new NFL season begins, according to the data.

As things stand, both FanDuel and DraftKings are awaiting approval to launch their proposed sportsbooks in partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes; this delay comes despite the two already operating daily fantasy sports leagues.

The operators are awaiting approval from the department of the interior, which will give its decision on 9 September.

Rush Street Interactive also plans to launch a sportsbook in Connecticut, in partnership with the Connecticut lottery.

Rush Street’s entrance into the state's market will see Connecticut become the New England state with the most live sportsbooks for players to visit and use. Connecticut will overtake both New Hampshire and Rhode Island, which have one live sportsbook each.

Despite these delays, a separate study conducted by CTSharp.com projects that Connecticut online sports betting and online casinos could reach $418m in annual combined revenue, once the market matures.

Specifically, the study claims that, at full maturity, online casinos can bring in $330m in annual operator revenue, with online sports betting adding $88m per year.
