In a year wracked by Covid-19, MGM Resorts dedicated considerable resources to three areas, or pillars: “fostering diversity and inclusion,” “investing in our communities” and “protecting the planet.”

Beginning with the company’s first pillar, 2021 saw MGM Resorts expand its Courageous Conversations programme, an open forum between leadership and employees designed to “improve efforts to foster diversity, equity and inclusion.”

In addition, MGM Resorts increased its charitable contributions during 2021. In total, it has donated over three million meals since 2016.

Other charitable efforts include its Matching Gifts programme, as well as partnerships with organisations such as the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation.

Jyoti Chopra, Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer, said: “During a transformative and turbulent year, we witnessed the enduring commitment of our employees to focus on and take care of our customers and colleagues.”

Of particular note in regard to MGM Resorts’ environmental efforts was the construction of a 100-megawatt solar array.

Located in the desert north of Las Vegas, the MGM Resorts Mega Solar Array comprises 323,000 panels arranged across a 640-acre plot. The energy produced by this array accounts for up to 90% of MGM Resorts’ Las Vegas daytime needs.

Moreover, this solar array represents a significant stepping stone in MGM Resorts’ plan to cut carbon emissions per square foot by 45%.

Alongside MGM Resorts’ report came what it called a “significantly refreshed website.” This includes additional features, such as a new section describing its overall approach to ESG, as well as quantitative performance data linked to MGM Resorts’ three ESG pillars.

“Last year was a time of economic change and disruption, but with it came heightened reflection, ultimately resulting in renewed commitment to embracing humanity and protecting the planet,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts President and CEO.

“We remain committed to achieving our long-term social impact and sustainability goals and are pleased by the progress we made to that end in 2021.”
