Sweden launches new-look self-exclusion website

Sweden has finally launched a refreshed website for its self-exclusion service after development began earlier this year.

In February, Spelinspektionen, or the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), announced that Spelpaus.se would receive a facelift. The regulator set an end of May launch date for the new-look platform, and as of yesterday, Spelpaus.se 2.0 is here.

In partnership with IT solutions firm Precio Fishbone, the SGA has spent the past few months upgrading the self-exclusion website with a new look and new features.

The revamped platform has been designed to more clearly present information and guidance on how to get help for gambling problems. And as many have requested, said the SGA, users are now able to extend an ongoing suspension.

While this update adds new functionality to Spelpaus, in the immediate term, little will change for players and licensees.

Anyone already registered will not be affected by the update, while operators should continue to check against the register and use the same technical solution as they did before.

“If you play too much and for more money than you can afford, it is important to be able to easily and quickly end that pattern and take a break from playing,” said Camilla Rosenberg, Director General of the SGA.

“Spelpaus.se does not solve a gambling addiction, but can mean that you have time to reflect on your gambling habits and the opportunity to change them for the better or choose not to play again.”

Over the years, the number of Swedish players choosing to suspend themselves has steadily risen, amounting to more than 75,000 people as of the latest count.
