Michigan will become largest iGaming market in US, says OddsSeeker

New Jersey online casino and poker sites generated $814.5m in revenue for the first half of 2022, compared to $757m for Michigan.

The figures were compiled by OddsSeeker and released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The numbers, when adjusted for population, result in $87.89 gambling revenue per capita in New Jersey, compared to $75.31 gambling revenue per capita in Michigan.

Michigan started online gambling in January 2021, compared to November 2013 for New Jersey, with OddsSeeker noting: “While online gambling is relatively new to Michigan, the rapid growth of the industry exposes incredible pent-up demand that likely exists across many states where online gambling is yet to be legalised.”

BetMGM topped the online casino list for both states, with Caesars and BetRivers in second for New Jersey and Michigan respectively. For New Jersey, the list then read DraftKings, FanDuel, Golden Nugget and WynnBet. For Michigan, it was Caesars in third, followed by DraftKings, FanDuel and WynnBet.

A new revenue record of $140.7m in March 2022 helped New Jersey casinos stay ahead of Michigan online casinos in the first six months of the year, but OddsSeeker claims that it won’t be long until the latter will overtake the former.

“Based on the year-over-year growth trajectory for New Jersey, since inception, it seems clear that Michigan will inevitably pass New Jersey in online gambling revenues and become the largest and most important betting and iGaming market in America,” said OddsSeeker Sports Editor Frank Weber.
