IGT (International Game Technology) has released a statement on the court ruling on US Patent No. 9,269,231 – ‘Facilitating use of a financial transaction device in a cashless wagering system in a gaming system’.

Back in November, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) concluded a thorough review of the patent infringement claims filed by IGT against Acres, rejecting all of the claims made.

IGT had claimed that Acres’ Foundation casino management system infringed on at least four out of over 200 patents related to cashless wagering. It also demanded Acres pay royalties that could have raised Foundation’s casino pricing significantly.

Despite the rejection of the claims in November, USPTO has once again reaffirmed the validity of US Patent No. 9,269,231.

IGT COO Gaming, Nick Khin, said “IGT is pleased to announce that the USPTO has reaffirmed for the second time the validity of US Patent No. 9,269,231.

“This patent covers fundamental cashless technology and is one of four patents being asserted against Acres. IGT will continue to vigorously protect its valuable intellectual property as it brings new and exciting technology to the gaming industry.”

In other legal news today, the Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) has called for a reconsideration of a planned reform that could remove a paragraph in the Criminal Code relating to the GGL being able to file criminal charges with the public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of illegally organising a game of chance.
