Kambi Group's esports subsidiary Abios has announced that Anton Janér will be taking over as Managing Director from CEO Oskar Bonnevier Fröberg, who has stepped down to pursue other ambitions.
The pair co-founded the company in 2013, with Janér operating as CTO. He will therefore hope to harness his extensive company knowledge, alongside over 10 years of operational industry experience in his new role as MD which is now effective as of May 1.
In 2021, Kambi acquired Abios in a deal that was worth $17.2m, and was overseen by Fröberg – who has commented on his decision to step down, saying: “We could not have found a better home for Abios than Kambi nor could I have found a better successor than Anton, giving me every confidence that Abios will only flourish moving forward.”
Most recently, in March, Kambi integrated Abios’ esoccer odds product into its sportsbook platform, with further plans to expand its ebasketball, Counter-Strike and League of Legends content onto Kambi’s platform. Kambi and Abios currently cover around 6,000 esoccer matches per month.
Current CTO and newly appointed Managing Director Janér spoke on his appointment, stating: “I am honoured to take the role of Managing Director and lead Abios into its next chapter.
"Oskar and I have had a lot of fun together throughout the years at Abios, building the company into the industry leader it is today. I am very excited about the future of Abios and eager to take the business to new heights alongside our excellent team.”
