ASA upholds ruling against ProgressPlay in relation to Jeffbet promotion

The information in the promotion was deemed not clear enough.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a ruling related to a promotional offer seen on the Jeffbet website.

The promotion, which was seen on the Jeffbet website, had a promotion that stated “Bet £10 ($12.50) and get £30 free bet,” with terms and conditions underlining that this only applied to new players.

A complainant, who was ultimately not eligible for the promotion despite being a new JeffBet customer, challenged whether the ad was misleading.

ProgressPlay, which trades as JeffBet, explained that it included as much detail as possible and that there was not enough space to indicate that the offer was only available to those new to the ProgressPlay network; and that this was included in the terms and conditions on the same page.

The ASA believed the “New Players Only” text suggested new Jeffbet customers only being eligible for this promotion, and that there was ample space for the ad to include any information that would inform customers about the offer.

The ASA also believes it should have been made clearer in the ad that the offer was for new customers of the ProgressPlay network, rather than new Jeffbet customers, and that it should have explained that ProgressPlay owned a number of gambling websites including Jeffbet.

As the ad, according to the ASA, gave the impression that all new Jeffbet customers were eligible for the promotion, this was considered misleading.

As a result, the ad cannot appear again in its current form and the company was told to ensure customers were not misled on promotions and significant conditions were not omitted from promotions.
