The European Casino Association's (ECA’s) European Dealer Championship 2024 (EDC) is set to get underway this week at the Casino Venlo in the Netherlands.

Beginning on 3 June, there will be three days of competition testing dealers’ “technical prowess, game control, hospiltality acumen and unshakable nerves,” before the EDC Champion is crowned on 5 June.

Dealers will be evaluated by a panel of impartial international judges assessing the dealer's skillset on elements such as game control, communication and technical skills.

The knock-out tournament will see participants competing to be the EDC Champion where they will receive a grand prize of €5,000 ($5,421). The second-place finisher will receive €3,000, while the third-place finisher will receive €1,500.

There will also be five skill challenges, with each offering a prize of €500 for the winners.

Since the first event back in 2007, the EDC has taken place in 15 countries and played host to 500 contestants.

ECA General Secretary Hermann Pamminger said: "I would like to thank all the sponsors of this year’s competition, who make it possible to stage this international celebration of land-based gaming talent.

“The ECA extends its gratitude to these leading companies from the European gaming industry for their continued commitment to the European Dealer Championship, ensuring its success and growth into the future."

In other competition news, Mecca Bingo hosted its first cross-channel slots tournament last week, with winner Andrew Thorpe taking home the £10,000 ($12,706) prize.
