The UK and Ireland division of industry giant Flutter has announced the launch of its 2024 Cash4Clubs programme, providing £400,000 ($521,924) in funding to grassroots sports clubs and charities across the UK and Ireland.
Aimed at boosting physical activity in local communities, the initiative will offer grants of £2,000 to 200 clubs to help improve facilities, purchase equipment and run coaching programs.
Last year, the programme helped over 9,000 people get involved in sports, from dance and swimming to archery and wheelchair rugby. Notable beneficiaries included Gosport Bowmen Archery Club, London Wheelchair Rugby Club and Basa, a Rochdale-based fitness group for women over 60.
Dame Caroline Dinenage, Chair of the cross-party CMS Select Committee, encouraged clubs to apply, saying, “These grants help clubs do vital work in communities, bringing people together and encouraging active lifestyles.”
Since its inception in 2008, Cash4Clubs has invested nearly £6m into community sports. Ian Brown, CEO of Flutter UKI, highlighted the programme’s potential to help clubs play a larger role in their communities, saying, “The benefits of sport are priceless, and this funding can make a real difference, especially in areas that need it most.”
Applications for the programme will be open until mid-November, and the programme, run in partnership with the charity Sported, will focus on clubs aiming to increase participation in deprived areas.
Earlier this year, Flutter launched a competition that invited start-ups to propose new ideas for a female-focused gaming product.
