The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the Gambling Commission (GC) have formalised their regulatory partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking an advancement in their collaborative efforts.
This agreement aims to enhance the exchange of information and intelligence between the two regulatory bodies, supporting shared goals of safeguarding consumers, preventing criminal activity and protecting vulnerable players from gambling-related harm.
With the gaming industry becoming increasingly globalised, both regulators emphasise the importance of cross-border cooperation. As such, by exchanging best practices and insights, the MGA and the GC hope to strengthen their regulatory frameworks and tackle common challenges more efficiently.
Commenting on the formalised partnership, GC CEO Andrew Rhodes stated: “We welcome this agreement as a sign of our continued collaboration between the MGA and the GC. We’ve been working closely for some time now, and following our successful visit this summer, it is only fitting that we formalise our working relationship.
Good to know: Future collaboration between the regulatory bodies will include initiatives in anti-money laundering, sports betting integrity and addressing industry challenges
“We are keen to continue strengthening our efforts to raise standards across the industry, tackling common challenges such as illegal gambling, while also exploring future collaboration, including initiatives like shadowing and addressing key issues in areas like AML and sports betting integrity.”
MGA CEO Charles Mizzi added: “Our longstanding informal collaboration with the GC has already delivered meaningful outcomes, and the formalisation of this cooperation is definitely a step in the right direction.
"In line with our regulatory objectives, we are confident such collaboration will allow us to address common challenges more effectively, allowing us to continuously improve on the effectiveness of our processes and framework.”
