Stuart Andrew has been confirmed as the new Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
This appointment comes after Kemi Badenoch unveiled the members of her shadow cabinet following her election as the new leader of the Conservative Party, with Andrew being named a member.
Prior to Labour’s election victory, Andrew was the Gambling Minister under the last Government when the Tories were in power, during which time of course the UK White Paper on gambling legislation was released.
After Labour took power, Andrew shortly served as the Shadow Chief Whip from July this year up until now, with his new position being confirmed as the Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Good to know: Andrew attended the Betting and Gaming Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) back in February, at which Gambling Insider present
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Andrew said: “Excited to take on my new role as Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport after serving as the Shadow Chief Whip.
“Looking forward to holding the Labour Government to account and developing the Conservative vision for these vital industries.”
The DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) itself announced its new ministerial team under the guidance of Lisa Nandy back in July, with Stephanie Peacock being named the Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, and Fiona Twycross being confirmed as the new Minister for Gambling.
This news after the Chancellor Rachel Reeves last week announced Labour’s first budget in 15 years, confirming no gambling duty increases.
