The newly appointed Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), Sam Hou Fai, has announced the assembly of a new government which will step into office from 20 December 2024.
As part of a press conference held over the weekend, Hou Fai unveiled a number of new government officials, alongside specifying a new legislative philosophy in Macau centered around “striving together, upholding integrity and innovating.”
The appointment of these new government members in Macau comes following official approval from China’s state cabinet. Amongst them, Tai Kin Ip, who is currently Director of Macau’s Economic and Technological Development Bureau, is set to take over as the new Secretary for Economy and Finance. Further, Chan Kak has also been appointed as Hou Fai’s new Chief-of-Office.
Following the new team’s inauguration on 20 December, Hou Fai detailed that the preparation of a new policy address would begin immediately. As part of the selection process of these new appointments, it was also detailed that the successful candidates met the necessary requirements of being loyal to Macau, having a strong sense of national security, alongside a commitment to public welfare.

All of the appointments to the new Macau Government have come from the public service sector and yield prior administrative experience. Hou Fai also highlighted a number of initiatives and plans for Macau under its new regime, including integrating more with the national development of China.
Hou Fai Hou Fai was voted in almost unanimously in October 2024, becoming the first Chief Executive of Macau born in mainland China. Within days of his appointment, a new illegal gambling law with stricter restrictions was passed in the region.
