The Gambling Awareness Trust are looking to appoint a new CEO, with Pam Bergin set to leave the position in a few weeks.

Bergin has been CEO of the charity based in Ireland since October 2019, which aims to fund gambling addiction counselling, prevention, education, research and awareness services in the country.

Prior to joining the Gambling Awareness Trust, much of her experience has come within the nonprofit sector, undertaking roles such as Manager of the Portlaoise Family Resource Centre and Development Worker with the Laois County Childcare Commitee.

The charity itself was established in 2019 and one of the biggest developments which has occurred within the gambling industry in Ireland since then took place in October 2024, when the Gambling Regulation Bill was passed, after the bill had been first introduced in 2022.

Bergin revealed she was leaving the role via a post on LinkedIn, saying: “After five thoroughly enjoyable years I will be leaving the Gambling Awareness Trust in a few weeks time. It’s been a fantastic experience. I still remember the excitement & trepidation I felt as I embarked on the role of CEO in 2019 tasked with addressing an area that had been totally overlooked in our society for so long. There’s been highs & lows & lots of learning! All invaluable insights along the way that I will remain grateful for.

Good to know: Gambling Awareness Trust Brand Ambassador Oisín McConville appeared on the Huddle in October to discuss his personal battle with gambling addiction, his role with the charity, among many other topics

“I’ve met some of the most amazing people, those in active gambling addiction, those in recovery, family members who were kind enough to share their experiences with me in an effort to help others. So many people who genuinely care & are eager to provide supports & services across the country collaborated with me to make incredible things happen. I’m truly grateful to have worked with you all.

“I’m leaving with the knowledge that thousands of people have been supported through the wide range of services we established, all of whom continue to respond to the growing need in our communities with the highest standards of care. That’s a good feeling.”
