PAGCOR reaffirms support for Special Class BPO sector

Key points:

– PAGCOR has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Special Class BPOs, which provide services to international gaming firms

– SCBPOs are prohibited from engaging in gaming operations, focusing instead on support services such as marketing, HR and accounting

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has reiterated its support for the country’s Special Class Business Process Outsourcing (SCBPO) sector, acknowledging its role in creating thousands of high-quality jobs for Filipinos.

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco assured foreign chambers of commerce that the state gaming regulator will continue advocating for SCBPOs and their expanding operations in the country.

He emphasised the sector’s contributions to employment and economic growth, noting that these firms are licensed by PAGCOR due to their association with international gaming companies.

Explaining his stance, Tengco went on to state: “The only difference from regular BPOs is that SCBPOs support the operations of legitimate gaming companies overseas, many of which are listed firms, by providing human resource, marketing, graphic design, accounting and other back office work.

“We also make sure that the SCBPOs are not directly engaged in gaming operations such as taking or soliciting bets.

“This industry has so much potential, and we are fully committed to its growth and capability to generate more employment for our people.”

Good to know: SCBPO firms are required to maintain a workforce composed of at least 95% Filipino employees, ensuring local talent benefits from above-industry salaries and job opportunities

The sector currently employs nearly 5,000 Filipinos, with further expansion anticipated.

This announcement follows PAGCOR’s recent commitment to fund infrastructure projects at the Philippine Military Academy.
