Fred says the league is ‘Done’ as Betfred pays out on Liverpool
The bookmaker has paid out £1m on Liverpool winning the Premier League title.
Key points:
– Betfred has paid out early on Liverpool winning the Premier League
– The decision is set to cost the bookmaker £1m
– Currently, Liverpool are 11 points clear at the top of the table with 11 games to play
Betfred boss Fred Done has paid out over £1m ($1.26m) on Liverpool to lift the Premier League title with 11 games still to play before the end of the season.
Indeed, despite being 11 games out from the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Betfred Co-Founder Fred Done has concluded that the current 11-point gap between league leaders Liverpool and second-placed Arsenal is a mountain too steep for the Gunners to climb.
This latest move marks the tenth time in which the bookmaker has paid out on an early conclusion to the Premier League on Done’s authority. So far, he has been right on seven occasions, most recently last year, when the Betfred boss announced an early £750,000 payout on Manchester City’s fourth straight title winning season.
After becoming the first operator to pay out on an early title win for Manchester United back in 1998, the side extraordinarily bottled a 12-point lead at the top, losing out to Arsenal by one point at the end of the season.
This marks one of only two occasions in which Betfred has incorrectly called the end-result of a Premier League season. However, going into the current season, the operator offered the industry’s top price on Liverpool to win the league at 9/1, with Done stating that he would use the money to pay for a Bahamas holiday come the end of the season.
Good to know: Done’s much beloved team, Manchester United, currently sit 15th in bottom half of the Premier League table
Commenting on this latest decision, Done stated: “As a lifelong Manchester United fan, it pains me having to pay out on Liverpool winning the Premier League title for a second time. After this weekend’s results, I believe the writing is on the wall and Liverpool will win the league this season in convincing fashion. To anybody who’s backed them to win the title with us, go and collect your money.”
