Key points:

– The company has been active in the nation for over 10 years
– This announcement closely follows recent AML developments in the nation
Betsson AB Group has announced its entry into the regulated Brazilian market, having officially obtained its gaming licence from the nation’s regulator.
Now, as of 25 February 2025, Betsson will be able to offer its gaming services in the newly regulated landscape. Indeed, Betsson is currently licensed to operate in a number of neighbouring South American nations, including Argentina, Colombia and Peru – and has been active within the Brazilian market for a decade, prior to its recent regulation.
Betsson President and CEO Pontus Lindwall spoke on this latest development, saying: “We welcome the introduction of a local regulatory framework in Brazil and are pleased to have obtained a license. This step aligns with our strategy to grow via geographical expansion, and we look forward to offering Brazilian customers a secure and high-quality gaming experience.”
This latest announcement comes following a flurry of recent regulatory activity within Brazil, which officially opened its online gaming and sports betting markets on the 1 January 2025. Since that time, a number of official licences have been granted in the country, with the SPA issuing 21 new definitive fixed-odds betting authorisations earlier this month.
Most recently, however, the SPA announced the requirement of enhanced AML policies from its licensed operators last week, following direct orders from the Ministry of Finance.
Good to know: Earlier this month, Betsson posted its Q4 & FY 2024 financial results – reporting a 22% revenue rise year-on-year to €1.1bn ($1.15bn)
Further, last month, the company was active in neighbouring Argentina, announcing the renewal of its sponsorship deal with Boca Juniors until December 2028.
Also in January, Betsson AB Group entered into partnership with GamepIAI in a deal that includes coverage of a number of major football leagues.
