KSA fines Sarah Eternal €900,000 for illegal online gambling
During its investigation, the KSA discovered that the company had not implemented any measures to prevent Dutch residents from accessing its gambling services.
Key points:
– KSA has fined Sarah Eternal SRL €900,000 for illegally offering gambling through Casinosky
– Violations included the lack of age verification and acceptance of cryptocurrency payments
– The fine follows broader regulatory enforcement efforts, including a €1.1m penalty against Alimaniere earlier this year
The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has imposed a €900,000 ($972,000) fine on Sarah Eternal SRL for illegally offering online gambling to Dutch players through the website Casinosky.
KSA’s investigation revealed multiple violations, including the failure to implement measures preventing Dutch players from accessing the site.
Among the violations identified were the absence of age verification systems – potentially allowing minors to participate in gambling activities – and the option to gamble using cryptocurrency.
Commenting on the verdict, KSA Chairman Michel Groothuizen stated: “The Netherlands has a legal market to ensure that people who want to gamble can do so safely.
“With these types of illegal providers, we often see that no account is taken of the prevention of risky gaming behaviour. As KSA, we take tough action against these types of parties.”
Good to know: The penalty follows a previous €280,000 fine issued to the company last year
The fine comes as part of KSA’s broader enforcement efforts to combat unlicensed gambling operations. Earlier this year, the regulator fined Alimaniere €1.1m for operating unauthorised gambling websites targeting Dutch players.
The company had attempted to bypass enforcement measures by launching a new platform after its original site was blocked.
In related news, the Netherlands’ legal gambling market has been undergoing regulatory changes aimed at boosting consumer protection.
Recent data from KSA showed that new player deposit limits introduced in October 2024 have contributed to a decline in excessive gambling, with fewer players setting high deposit limits and a reduction in average losses.
