Key points:

– Allwyn has introduced several changes to responsible gambling measures since taking over operations of The National Lottery a year ago

– These include transaction limits and QR codes for quick access to support

– As such, the operator has received two certificates for responsible gambling efforts

Allwyn UK has received two certifications as part of efforts to bolster responsible gambling efforts.

The National Lottery operator achieved the European Lotteries (EL) Responsible Gaming Certification, as well as Level 4 of the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) Responsible Gaming Framework, which is the highest level possible.

These certificates are used to show which operators employ the highest levels of player protection and safety in day-to-day operations.

Andria Vidler, Allwyn CEO, said: “Just over a year on from taking over as The National Lottery operator, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve achieved these important EL and WLA Responsible Gaming Certifications.

“National Lottery games are specially designed to be safe and secure, ensuring they don’t appeal to underage or vulnerable players.

“However, with over 30 million people routinely playing National Lottery games – raising over £30m ($38.9m) a week for good causes in the process – it’s crucial that we continue to do everything we can to prevent underage and excessive play.”

Some of the initiatives introduced by Allwyn include ensuring that its 43,500 retail partners adhere to the Challenge 25 scheme.

By using over 8,200 mystery shoppers last year, Allywn was able to verify that 92.3% of National Lottery retailers correctly asked for ID as proof of age.

Last October, Allwyn also introduced a ten scratchcard limit to transactions and became a Level Two member of the National Council of Problem Gambling’s Gift Responsibly Campaign.

Finally, Allwyn also integrated QR codes to in-store media screens which provided customers with instant support and launched the National Lottery Retail Training Centre to enhance retailer training.

Good to know: In order to qualify for Level 4 of the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) Responsible Gaming Framework, a member has to complete self-assessments, develop and implement a budgeted plan and commit to continuous improvement across ten pillars of responsible gaming

In its recent FY2024, Allwyn International reported that its revenue had grown 12% to €8.79bn ($9.52bn), when compared to the year prior.

Vidler continued: “So, it’s great to have this external recognition of what we’ve achieved so far, but we also know that our work in this area is never finished.

“We plan to continue working hard on our responsible play credentials and driving up our own high standards, keeping National Lottery players at the heart of everything we do.”
