Industry leaders launch social gaming leadership alliance to promote standards and responsible innovation
New US-based alliance aims to advocate for social casino-style games, with support from VGW, Playstudios and other major stakeholders.
Key points:
– The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) has been formed to represent the interests of social casino game providers and promote responsible innovation
– Founding members include VGW, Playstudios, Yellow Social Interactive, ARB Interactive, B-Two Operations and payments provider Nuvei
– The alliance has appointed former US Congressman Jeff Duncan as Executive Director to lead engagement with policymakers and the public
A new coalition of leading industry stakeholders has launched the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA), aiming to provide a unified voice for the growing online social games sector in the United States.
Announced yesterday, the SGLA will promote responsible innovation and seek to increase understanding of the sector’s entertainment value and regulatory needs.
The alliance is backed by a group of established operators and service providers including VGW, Playstudios, Yellow Social Interactive, ARB Interactive, B-Two Operations and payment solutions firm Nuvei.
Together, these companies support a range of free-to-play, casino-style games that often feature sweepstakes mechanics, with millions of adult users engaging across the platforms.
Appointed to lead the alliance is former US Representative Jeff Duncan, who described the initiative as an opportunity to bring clarity and structure to an increasingly popular form of digital entertainment.
Duncan said: “The SGLA’s partners are uniquely positioned to work with lawmakers, stakeholders and players to support innovation in digital games.”
According to founding partner VGW, the alliance seeks to distinguish social gaming from real-money gambling by reinforcing principles such as free access to games, age restrictions, robust data protection and voluntary self-limitation tools.
Good to know: The coalition also pledged to support initiatives that prioritise player safety and platform integrity
While social casino-style games differ from traditional gambling in that they do not require monetary wagers, their rising popularity has led to increased scrutiny from regulators and consumer advocacy groups.
The SGLA reportedly intends to address this by initiating fact-based dialogue with lawmakers and aligning around best practices.
The formation of the SGLA comes amid a broader international focus on responsible gambling. Last week, PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco called for deeper cross-sector collaboration to reduce gambling-related harm, highlighting the importance of exclusion measures and regulatory safeguards–principles also endorsed by the new alliance.
