India: Four men arrested for illegal gambling

Four men were arrested in Panchkula after being found gambling in Indira Colony, Sector 16, late on the night of 16 August, with police seizing cash from the scene. The incident was confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Srishti Gupta, as reported by The Tribune.
According to police, the arrests took place at around 11 pm following a tip-off that gambling activity was being organised near Labour Chowk. Sector-16 police post in-charge Sinharaj, along with his team, conducted the raid at a tower located next to a tubewell. Four individuals, identified as Sonu, Lekhraj, Sumit and Arvind, were apprehended during the operation.
Authorities recovered RS 13,780 (US$165) from the accused, who are all residents of Indira Colony in Sector 17. Police later registered a case under Section 13 of the Gambling Act at the Sector-14 station. An investigation into the matter is now under way.

DCP Gupta stressed that the Panchkula Police are maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy towards unlawful activities. She added that gambling, betting and drug abuse damage the fabric of society, and offenders will not be spared under any circumstances.
The accused remain in custody as police continue their probe.
