New York reports first $2bn monthly wagering handle since May

The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) has reported its latest monthly sports wagering and casino revenue statistics for the month of August, highlighting a total sports betting handle of approximately $2.04bn.
Overall, FanDuel remained the state’s leading sports wagering operator during the month, with casino revenue also experiencing a healthy revenue upswing of 4.7% year-on-year – spurred on by a rise in slot game activity.
New York August sports wagering results
More specifically, the NYSGC has unveiled that, in addition to the $2.04bn handle generated by the state’s sports betting market in August, gross gaming revenue during the month also reached $178.2m, its second-lowest total this fiscal year-to-date. Indeed, these latest results highlight that sports wagering handle and GGR have risen by 35.2% and 35.7%, respectively, year-on-year.
Overall, this brings the fiscal year-to-date cumulative totals for sports wagering handle and GGR up to $9.5bn and $981.8m, respectively, placing both figures on course to exceed last year’s totals, especially with the full commencement of the sports season this month.
FanDuel remained New York’s leading operator during the month, reporting a revenue figure of $66.9m, with DraftKings close behind at $62.3m. Regarding operator wagering handles, however, DraftKings accepted a superior volume of wagers during August 2025, $579.6m, with FanDuel behind at $561.9m. Elsewhere, Fanatics’ overall wagering handle also surpassed that of FanDuel’s, with the operator accepting a total of $565.8m in bets – its new monthly high in New York.
New York August casino results
Regarding casino results, the NYSGC reported New York’s highest revenue figure for 2025 so far during August, with casino GGR for the month reaching just under $65m – up 4.7% year-on-year and 7.3% month-on-month. This upswing was primarily driven by a strong slot game performance, with the slot and electronic table game (ETG) sector generating a $47m GGR figure during the month – up 9.5% from last year’s total.
Table game activity, however, experienced a year-on-year revenue decline of 4.2% despite settling at a figure of $16.5m, the highest total reported during this fiscal year so far.

Of the NYSGC’s four total casinos, Rivers Casino reported the highest GGR figure for the month of August, settling at $20.1m, up 7.3% year-on-year. Trailing behind was Del Lago Casino, which reported in August GGR of $15.5m, also seeing the most significant year-on-year growth (9%) of any casino in the state.
Indeed, it would appear that New York’s gaming revenue has begun to pull out of the summer lull often experienced due to the break in the sports season, following a dip in recent monthly financials which began in June.
