– The partnership will give Underdog access to the licensed Missouri sports betting market, subject to approvals, via a market access partnership
Fatnasy operator Underdog has signed a multi-year partnership with the Kansas City Royals. As part of a market access partnership, Underdog will gain access to Missouri’s licensed sports betting market, pending licence approval from the Missouri Gaming Commission.
Underdog offers a range of sports betting options outside of traditional bets, including daily fantasy sports (DFS), prediction markets and more. It was founded in 2020 and has previously partnered with brands including Sportradar and Ultimate Autographs, and has also been chosen as a betting partner for Blast Premier. It currently holds a sports betting licence in North Carolina and offers DFS in other states.
Since its founding, Underdog has also continued to secure funding from various sources. In July 2022, it secured $35m in Series B funding, and in March 2025, it secured $70m in Series C funding. The company has put some of this funding towards good causes, with Underdog launching its $1m responsible gaming innovation fund in October 2023.
On the partnership, Underdog SVP, Government Affairs and Partnerships Stacie Stern said: “The Royals have forged a deep and authentic connection with baseball fans throughout the Kansas City region, in Missouri and beyond.
Good to know: Prior to the installation of AB 831 in California, a Bill banning sweepstakes and DFS, Underdog filed a pre-emptive lawsuit
“We’ve built our products with the same approach – real, organic connection with sports fans to get to one goal: Make sports more fun. We are going to work with the Royals to bring the best sports betting experience possible to fans in Missouri, while we continue to drive innovation in sports gaming and expand our product offerings in new states.”
Royals President of Business Operations Brooks Sherman added: “The Royals look forward to continuing and enhancing our partnership with Underdog, which is our longest-standing relationship in sports gaming.
“We’ve partnered with them on some of our most engaging fan programs, like Bark at the Park and the Underdog Hot Dog Derby, and we look forward to working with Underdog to provide Royals fans throughout Missouri the opportunity to have even more fun while watching sports.”
