DGOJ renews National Security Scheme certification

Key points:

– The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) has renewed its National Security Scheme (ENS) certification

– It comes following a biennial renewal audit

The Spanish gaming regulator, the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), has renewed its National Security Scheme (ENS) certification.

The ENS is the regulatory framework for information systems in Spain’s public sector, under Royal Decree 311/2022. It establishes a list of good practices for protecting computer systems and digital infrastructures in the public sector, in order to best protect sensitive information and personal data.

Following a biennial audit, the DGOJ has been shown to be up to snuff, with its ENS certification renewed. The audit was conducted by the accredited entity AENOR CONFIA.

Good to know: The DGOJ is an agency under the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030

The news follows the regulator’s recent Q2 GGR report. In it, the DGOJ found that deposits were up 23.7% year-on-year to €1.35bn ($1.59bn), with GGR reaching  €410.3m, up 18.6%. The biggest contributors to GGR were casino and sports betting, as 52.7% and 41.8% respectively, with contributions also made by poker and bingo.

New accounts were also up, growing 11.7% to 504,853. An increase in marketing spend may have contributed to this, up 37.1% to €164.5m.

The regulator is also currently developing a new system to detect early signs of risky behaviour among players, having published its first draft in August. It has been given, by Royal Decree, two years to develop the system, in order to safeguard players.
