Construction of first Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Canada begins

The first Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Canada, which will debut in Ottawa in a few years, has begun construction.

The completion of the hotel is expected for spring 2025, replacing the Rideau Carleton Casino.

The new resort will have a 150-room hotel with 22 suites, 1,500 slot machines, 40 live-action table games, a sportsbook, high-limit gaming and a Baccarat room. In addition, it will include 10 dining options, bars, and lounges, a Hard Rock Live theatre with 1,800 seats and a standing area for 2,200.

Jon Lucas, Hard Rock International COO, said: “We are excited to be one step closer to bringing our iconic brand and rich music history to the people of Ottawa and the surrounding region.

“I wish to thank the provincial and municipal elected officials who helped us get here today. We are especially grateful to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) who have been incredibly supportive in helping make this possible. We appreciate our partnership with them.”

The private investment development in Ottawa will also create close to 1,900 new direct and indirect construction jobs as well as ongoing employment opportunities.

Mark Sutcliffe, Mayor of Ottawa, said: “The new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino represents a significant investment in the south end of our city. It will create new jobs and build on the existing attraction at Rideau Carleton Casino. It will also be another great tourist attraction in Ottawa.”

Meanwhile, Future Hard Rock donated CAD$20,000 (USD$14,902) to Minwaashin Lodge, a nearby shelter for Indigenous women, in recognition of the construction ceremony at Rideau Carleton Casino.

Hotel reps said: “Hard Rock International which is wholly owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida is fully committed to supporting local and Indigenous organisations through charitable donations, sponsorships and partnerships.”
