GGL gives online casino Red Rhino €50,000 penalty for operating without a licence

The Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), the German Gambling Authority, has given Red Rhino Limited a penalty €50,000 ($53,300) for offering games to German players without a licence.

The GGL had originally demanded that Red Rhino restrict itself from offering online games to German customers.

Although Red Rhino did take down the platincasino.de site, players in Germany could still access the brand through the platincasino.com site.

Benjamin Schwanke, GGL Board Member, said: “The measures taken by the GGL are having an effect and we are noticing an increasing reduction in existing unauthorised online gambling offers.”

For breaching the prohibition order, Red Rhino has been a €50,000 penalty, with another penalty payment being imposed on the payment service provider working with Red Rhino.

In addition, the GGL has emphasised that it can repeat periodic penalty payments or increase them until and prohibition orders are complied with.

Ronald Benter, GGL Executive Board Member said: “This goes hand in hand with a channelling to legal offers.

“Consumers should ensure that they only use legal online gambling services, as the strict legal player protection measures are overseen by the GGL.”

The GGL has an up-to-date list of companies that are whitelisted in the country, as well as an official “GGL Test and Approval Seal” that companies can display if they hold the necessary licenses.

The Founder and Editor-in-Chief of onlinecasinosdeutschland.com, a platform for iCasino-related news and reviews in Germany, Mark Seibert, recently spoke up about how the GGL has changed the iGaming scene in Germany.
