Zeal announces leadership change, with Peter Steiner stepping down in 2025
Zeal Network SE announces leadership change; Chairman to step down in 2025 and Frank Strauß unexpectedly passes away.
Zeal Network SE has announced that Peter Steiner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, will step down from his position at the end of the 2025 Annual General Meeting. Steiner’s departure comes after a 12-year tenure on the board.
Steiner, an independent auditor, joined the Zeal Supervisory Board in June 2013. He initially served as Chairman of the Audit Committee before becoming Chairman of the Supervisory Board in 2017.
During 2019, Steiner also chaired the Supervisory Board of Lotto24 AG, a company acquired by Zeal Network SE. Apart from his role at Zeal, Steiner chairs the Supervisory Board of Wienerberger AG in Vienna and is Chairman of the Audit Committee of Clariant AG in Basel.
In 2022, the Annual General Meeting of Zeal Network SE confirmed his membership on the Supervisory Board for another four years.
The Executive Committee of the Supervisory Board has initiated a selection process to identify suitable candidates to succeed both Steiner and Frank Strauß, a board member who sadly passed away unexpectedly last week.
The Supervisory Board will propose election candidates at the 2025 Annual General Meeting and will take interim steps to fill Strauß’s position beforehand.
This leadership transition occurs against the backdrop of positive financial performance for Zeal. The company reported a 22% increase in lottery billings for the first quarter of 2024, reaching €246.3m ($267m). Group revenue for the same period rose by 35% to €36.1m compared to €26.7m in the first quarter of 2023.
Adjusted EBITDA also saw a slight increase of 1% to €9.4m. This growth was driven by a 28% rise in lottery business revenue to €32m and a 21% monthly increase in active customers.
In April 2023, Zeal became a member of the World Lottery Association (WLA), a global organisation that upholds strict standards in security, risk management and responsible gaming.
