Alice Guo expelled from NPC, charged with human trafficking
The charge was filed against Guo and her alleged business partners, which included a fugitive in China and money laundering suspects in Singapore.
The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) has expelled Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo from the party, as reported by Philippines news agencies in recent updates regarding the mayor’s suspension due to suspected ties to illegal POGOs.
“The NPC will not tolerate any unlawful acts or any appearance of impropriety by its members that will undermine the principle of our party,” the party was quoted in a statement to the media.
Aside from the expulsion, Guo is also facing human trafficking charges filed by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
The charge was filed before the Department of Justice, made against Guo and her alleged business partners, which included former Technology and Livelihood Resource Center deputy director general Dennis Cunanan; Huang Zhiyang, a fugitive in China; Zhang Ruijin and Baoying Li, both being money laundering suspects in Singapore.
Guo is currently on suspension for six months without pay by the Office of the Ombudsman since 31 May, in which the accused mayor has requested for a fair investigation into the claims.
In the wake of the case, the DOLE has also vowed to tighten its laws in screening foreign work applicants.
