Spanish online gaming GGR reaches €346.34m for Q2

Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) has released financial figures for Spain’s online gambling market for the second quarter of 2024.

In total, gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached €346.3m ($386.5m) during the period, representing an increase of 10.79% year-on-year.

Looking at the individual segments, betting, bingo and casino saw growth, while poker saw a decline and contests registered no activity during Q2.

Casino held the largest share of the GGR with 49.57%, with betting not far behind at 42%. This left poker with 7.38% and bingo with 1.04% of the market.

For the actual figures, betting went up 9.13% from the same period last year to €145.48m, while casino rose 14.57% to €171.69m and bingo was 1.87% higher than Q2 2023 at €3.61m. The poker segment decreased by a marginal 0.76% to €25.56m.

Total turnover was valued at €8.26bn during the quarter, an increase of 7.76% compared to the same period last year, with casino representing the bulk of this at €4.99bn, though it was the betting segment which saw the largest growth at 10.73%, being valued at €2.55bn.

Looking at game accounts and the number of gamblers monthly average, this continued to grow. Active accounts were up 23.65% to 1,401,634, active gamblers up 22.11% to 942,805 and new accounts up 46.57% to 150,677. Though when it came to new gamblers this figure was down 5.15% to 47,826.

Recently, the Swedish Gaming Authority, Spelinspektionen, also released financial figures for the second quarter of 2024, showing overall growth in the gambling market in Sweden.
