Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has published its Q4 and FY24 reports.

Q4

During the final quarter of the year, the Swedish gaming market saw a turnover of SEK 7.6bn, which is an increase of 8% when compared to the same period in the year prior and a 14% increase from Q3.

Online gaming and betting grew by 6% to SEK 4.6bn, while land-based gambling grew 9% annually to SEK 63m.

State lottery and games increased by 19% to SEK 1.7bn while public lotteries saw a smaller growth of 5% to SEK 1.1bn.

Casino Cosmopol continued its downward trend, going from SEK 92m in Q4 2023 to SEK 31m in Q4 2024.

FY24

Overall turnover for 2024 was SEK 27.8bn, a 2.5% increase compared to results from the year prior.

Online gaming and betting grew by 3.5% to SEK 17.8bn, while land-based gambling increased by a marginal 4% to SEK237m.

State lottery and games saw a 2% increase to SEK 5.7bn and public lotteries grew by 2.5% to SEK 3.7bn.

The largest difference, understandably, was once again Casino Cosmopol – turnover fell 66% to SEK 160m.

The Spelinspektionen also revealed that by the end of the year, around 120,6000 people were registered on Spelpaus, the self-exclusion service in the country.

This represented a 3% increase throughout the final quarter of the year.

However, earlier today, the Swedish Government announced it would be reviewing the country’s Gambling Act, with the aim to tighten certain regulations.
