Gamstop annual report: 1% of UK adults have self-excluded

Gamstop has released its latest annual report, highlighting that a total 1% of the UK’s population has now registered with the organisation’s gambling self-exclusion schemes since 2018.
Indeed, this number equates to a total of 560,000 individuals now registered with Gamstop – a fact which is touched upon by outgoing Chair Jenny Watson CBE, who has been in her position since 2018 and is set to be succeeded in H2 2025.
As alluded to in the report, this number of registrations has exceeded previous expectations by some distance and has – according to Gamstop – served to further accentuate the need to accessible self-exclusion options within the wider global gambling market.
Speaking on these latest findings, Watson stated: “I am confident the organisation is well-positioned to achieve the important objective of making gambling safer for everyone. We are firmly established as a world-leading technology provider in the gambling harm support sector.”
Building on this statement, Gamstop CEO Fiona Palmer said: “We have made a commitment to them to do this going forward…our priority remains delivering a clear, technically robust exclusion solution to those who need it most.”

This latest annual report also contains details of a 2024 independent study into Gamstop by Ipsos, which highlights that 75% of its users no longer gamble online.
More recently, in February, an additional report by the company highlighted a recent surge in self-exclusion tools being accessed by under-25s – with the highest percentage of registrants coming from the North-East of England.
