India raids Congress members in case linked to gambling
The Congress members involved in the raid have links to land-based casinos located in India.
Key points:
– Indian Parliament recently banned all forms of real money online gambling
– Premises linked to Congress have been raided
– These raids were attributed to a case involving online betting and gaming
The Enforcement Directorate raided several buildings linked to Karnataka Congress MLA K C Veerendra Puppy and others, as part of an online gaming and betting case – according to local media.
Puppy, also written as Pappy, is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Chitradurga Assembly constituency in Chitradurga district.
It is believed the raids are being undertaken as part of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Although any explicit ownership remains unclear, Puppy did frequently promote Puppy’s Casino Gold on his social media, a premises located in Goa.
In fact, when Googling Puppy, the first suggested result at the time of writing is “K C Veerendra Puppy casino name.”
Good to know: Puppy has represented Indian National Congress since 2023 when he polled 122,021 votes, beating second place by 53,300 votes
The main website for this casino is purely a promotional one, rather than an iGaming platform, but that does not rule out other sites existing under the operator.
The recently passed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill bans all forms of online gambling.
Popular verticals, including poker, rummy and online lotteries will all be affected, while esports and educational games will continue to be supported by the government.
