Sweden: Camilla Rosenberg exits Spelinspektionen for Ministry of Finance role
She has been appointed Director and Head of the Swedish estate agent authority.
Key points:
– Spelinspektionen Director Camilla Rosenberg is set to leave the authority after eight years
– She will take on the role of Director and Head of Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen from 1 November
– Announcement timed just days after reports of low channelisation rates in the regulated Swedish market
The Director General of the Swedish gaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, has been appointed to the nation’s real estate authority.
Camilla Rosenberg has been the Director General of Spelinspektionen since 2017. However, as of 1 November, she will be taking on the role of Director and Head of Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen, Sweden’s state administrative authority for overseeing real estate agents and companies. Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen is part of Sweden’s Ministry of Finance.
On her appointment, Minister for Civil Affairs Erik Slottner said: “I am pleased that Camilla Rosenberg has accepted the assignment as Director of the Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate. Camilla’s experience, especially from the Swedish Gambling Authority, and their work to combat money laundering will be of great value to FMI and I look forward to our future collaboration.”
The move follows not long after Spelinspektionen published its latest channelisation report. In it, the regulator found that only 85% of games in the nation were played through licensed channels, while 15% were unregulated. This was below the operator’s goal of 90%, primarily due to significant underperformance from online casino, with a channelisation rate of 72-82%.
Whether the two are linked, however, is uncertain.
But, the issue has called other governing bodies, such as the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS), to speak up. In response to an upcoming inquiry, which BOS shareholders feel to be inadequate, BOS Secretary General Gustaf Hoffstedt said: “The appointment of a broad inquiry tasked with preventing leakage to the unlicensed gambling market would undoubtedly be this Government’s most important measure to protect and strengthen the legal, regulated gambling market, before Sweden goes to the polls in September next year.”
