Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year

Sands: The integrated resort operator’s corporate responsibility initiatives help sustain its host communities (Singapore, Macau, Las Vegas). Initiatives are organized under the pillars of People, Communities and Planet. Examples from the past 12 months include: organizing the second annual Sands Cares Food Kit Build to provide food to people in need in Singapore and Macau; collectively assembling 57,000 hygiene kits from October through December as part of the 2023 Sands Cares Global Hygiene Kit Build; Marina Bay Sands donating S$500K ($375K) to Singapore’s National Arts Council to establish the Sands Innovative Arts Fund to support emerging artists and innovation.

Newport World Resorts: NWR links its business to relevant social issues via innovative approaches that benefit the community it serves as well as the environment. Last year the property’s charity arm donated money for the construction of more patient rooms at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Manila. A big CSR highlight for NWR from 2023 was earning an EarthCheck Silver Certification through its all-encompassing, fully-integrated sustainability program dubbed I LOVE Earth (ILE). NWR is the first and only EarthCheck Silver-Certified IR in the country, covering gaming areas, retail, theater, and line of hotels.

Bloomberry Resorts Corporation: Bloomberry strives to improve the lives of the community it serves and implements various CSR initiatives through the Solaire Cares program and its Bloomberry Cultural Foundation, Inc. (BCFI). In 2023, Solaire Cares pursued two impactful projects: the Coastal Cleanup (focused on removing waste from the Solaire Promenade and raising awareness about preserving marine ecosystems) and the Shining Scholars (providing financial assistance, mentorship, and resources to empower deserving students on their educational journey). BCFI contributed PHP840,000 ($15K) to the Overseas Filipino Workers Hospital, PHP2.7m ($48K) to the San Andres Hospital, to name a few initiatives.

The Lottery Office: Australia’s The Lottery Office team continues to dedicate time, effort and resources to supporting local hospitals, homelessness, veterans, animals and a variety of other charities and communities as part of its Lottery Office Charity Fund. Notable CSR initiates from the past 12 months include helping the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation with the purchase of a humidicrib saving lives of many premature babies, as well as supporting Australian Street Aid Project to help Australians and families suffering homelessness.

RG24seven Virtual Training: BMM founded RG24seven Virtual Training to provide free online responsible gaming training. Education is a foundational element in ensuring a strong and sustainable gaming industry, which is why BMM has invested in developing a best-in-class, video-based education and training platform to create informed responsible advocates throughout the industry. The platform has grown to include training on anti-money laundering, corporate social responsibility, and human trafficking.

Wynn Resorts Macau: Wynn continues to implement and develop sustainable strategies and solutions. It was Macau’s first IR to recycle shredded playing cards and use an on-site Nordaq water bottling plant at significant scale to reduce plastic waste. In recognition of its ongoing commitment to ESG, it was recently awarded a second Silver Certification from EarthCheck, becoming the only operator in Macau to have all of its properties certified by EarthCheck. The operator also takes RG seriously and earlier this year it had its second property, Wynn Macau, certified as a “Responsible Gambling Model Unit”. Wynn also takes proactive measures to support and participate in charitable activities in Macau every year.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment: Melco’s CSR initiatives are structured around the following pillars: youth, education, women, culture/heritage, environment, responsible gaming, whole person development and economic prosperity for local suppliers and SMEs. Earlier this year, around 370 Melco volunteers devoted more than 420 hours to approximately 1,020 local community beneficiaries to deliver Chinese New Year blessings and joy to the local community. The company’s Heart of House SME Roadshow series generated more than MOP9m ($1.1m) additional revenue for 270 local SMEs and NGOs. Melco also regularly gives generous donations. For example, last December it donated MOP10m ($1.2m) to support earthquake relief efforts in northwest China’s Gansu Province.

Okada Manila: In the past 12 months, Okada’s charitable arm, the Okada Foundation, announced a partnership with Kabisig ng Kalahi (KnK), an NGO for poverty alleviation in the Philippines, pledging to allocate PHP25m ($451K) over the next 5 years to support KnK programs. It also established a partnership with Parañaque City to donate PHP12m ($216K) every year in support of the city’s medical and healthcare related projects, donated drones and radio communications equipment to the Philippine National Police, worth PHP20m ($361K), amongst other highlights.
