Gemini Predictions Adds Sports Event Contracts

Gemini has expanded its prediction market offering to include sports event contracts, launching with College Football Playoff games and the NFL Wild Card Round.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission-approved Gemini Predictions platform now offers yes-or-no contracts on upcoming matchups, including the CFP semifinals, this weekend’s six NFL Wild Card games, and a full slate of NBA games. NFL award futures are also available for trading.

Gemini is using NFL and college football team logos in its sports prediction contracts, a notable move in the context of regulated gaming partnerships. Most CFTC-licensed exchanges have avoided team branding without formal agreements, as Dustin Gouker points out on The Event Horizon. NBA logos do not appear on the Gemini Predictions sports page.

Contracts can be traded in US dollars through Gemini Exchange accounts on web and iOS, with Android support expected to follow.

Aggressive Launch Incentives

Gemini is offering up to $250 in benchmark-based incentives, alongside fee-free trading during its initial launch period. The structure is more aggressive than typical sign-up in the prediction markets space and is more in line of what sportsbooks offer.

By contrast, Polymarket focuses on liquidity rewards, paying users to place limit orders that add market depth, with referral bonuses usually around $10. Kalshi also offers a $10 sign-up bonus tied to deposits and minimum trading activity, supported by cashback through its Volume Incentive Program.

Gemini’s higher sign-up bonus signals a willingness to spend to accelerate early user adoption of its sports product.

Prediction Markets is What Crypto Exchanges Do

Gemini joins other cryptocurrency platforms moving into sports prediction markets, including Crypto.com, Coinbase, and Phantom. The exchanges are positioning prediction markets as part of broader “super app” strategies that combine trading, staking, rewards, and event-based contracts.

Gemini has described prediction markets as part of a broader strategy to build a unified financial platform. The company aims to combine cryptocurrency trading, digital asset staking, rewards, and event contracts within a single ecosystem.

The sports contract launch places Gemini in more direct competition with established platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket. Recently, the space has become more crowded as cryptocurrency exchanges and sportsbook operators enter the sector.
